Sugar Loaf (including trekking)

How about trekking in one of the most beautiful view of Rio? I love to go there, is one of my best places to go when I want to have a good time with fresh air.
I chose this place in my first couchsurfing meeting. He was a Jewish from Washington DC and was visiting Rio for only a few days. He came to Brazil to go in a Ecotourism Congress in Bonito-MS and decided to stay in Rio also. He told me that we loved nature and trekking, that why I invited him to Urca. At that day was holiday in Rio and the city was very calm.

We went straight to climb the Urca Mountain (which is the smaller). It takes about 20/40 minuts to go there. And it is free. No payment. But if you want to go up to Sugar Loaf (second and bigger mountain) you need to buy the tickets.

He also wrote a good refrerence about me at couchsurfing :)
The day was cloudy :(

He macth other jewish and they ask him to pray. lol

Tickets here: http://www.bondinho.com.br/ (portuguese/ english/ spanish/ german)
It's always very crowded over there, so you should book.
They don't sell ticket at the urca mountain only at Praia Vermelha (red arrows).

To find the Urca trekking follow the arrows.
Red: buy the ticket if you want to go up Sugar Loaf
Yellow: At the end of the beach there is a gate, go there.
Orange: Where you should star to climp.

(the treck start)

Precaution:
There no reason to worries! The trekking is safe, no guard and no sigs. lol But always very busy. You should go up and then turn the left, if you go to the other side you will find the second mountain and there is no place to go, you must go back.
You will find food, water and toailet at the top of Urca.

How to go:
By subway: At "Estação Botafogo"  take the integration bus 511A (Botafogo - Urca). Repeat "URCA? URCA? Integração onde?" to someone at metro station.
By Bus - Take 107 (Central-Urca), 511 (Urca - Leblon - Via Joquei Circular), 512 (Urca - Leblon - Via Copacabana Circular) e 2011 (praça Mauá - Laranjeiras).
*Leave the bus at the end of Av. Pasteur close from Praia Vermelha.

Eat at Urca?
The next post!

Hello my friends!

After receive so many invitation to hang out on Couchsurfing - sometimes asking me for a couch (not yet) or only some tips about restaurants, bars, nightclubs - I decided to create a place to write and maybe I can help more people.

I created this blog to help people to hang out in Rio and having fun as a local. Of course I will also write about tourist places like Christ the Redeemer or Sugar loaf, because even those places has different point of view. But I want to share places that I usually go and Rio by Local will be a motivation to go to others places also.

Another thing that is important is "how to get there?". During my experience hanging out with Gringos at Couchsurfing I realize that they are not interested to use taxi as I thought. For me, a brazilian girl, the cost of taxi in Rio are cheap. Mostly when you are with a group of four people. But I see that for Gringos can be expensive, because taxi drivers can be very rascal and also Gringos don't have a lot of money. Because of that I will always try to help to find the places using bus, metro, walking. But google also can help with that, because things here are alway changing.

My english is not so good, so please, help me with that! And the mostly important reason about "Rio by Local": I'm doing that because I love this place so much and we should share things we love, right?

See you!
